Liaigre in Sydney
For a brief time in Sydney, Liaigre took up residence at The Lands by Capella.

Conceived by the Liaigre studio in Paris, the residency explored the longstanding connection between the French house and Australia — a shared appreciation for natural materials, clarity of space and a quieter, more restrained expression of luxury.

The rooms unfolded as a sequence of domestic spaces: an entrance, living room, library and dining room. Iconic Liaigre pieces sat alongside more recent designs, brought together in an interior that felt lived in rather than displayed. The palette, drawn from the colours and materials of the natural world, seemed particularly at home in Sydney.

There has long been a natural affinity between Liaigre's work and our own. Over the years, we have worked closely with the house on the furnishing of several projects, including Balmoral Residence and Kurraba Penthouse. Its emphasis on proportion, material and comfort, and the confidence to achieve luxury through restraint rather than ostentation, has always resonated with us.

Within the residency, we hosted a series of intimate gatherings for our clients. Over several evenings, AFR Style and Leisure editor and design commentator Stephen Todd led conversations around architecture, interiors and the ideas that shape the spaces we live in.

The setting made for a particular kind of exchange. Conversations moved between Sydney and Paris, architecture and furniture, art, travel and craft — and the often less tangible qualities that give a room its atmosphere.

Perhaps this was what made the residency feel so relevant to Sydney. For all its distinctly Parisian origins, Liaigre's work shares something with the way we think about living here: an ease between inside and out, an appreciation of natural materials and light, and spaces designed to be lived in rather than simply looked at.

The evenings were also an opportunity to spend time with our clients outside the usual context of a project. To share a room, a conversation and a few ideas.

We were very glad to have been part of Liaigre's time in Sydney.
