Reflections from Milan - An Evening with Mathieson Architects
Earlier this month, Mathieson Architects hosted Reflections from Milan – an event to unpack and reflect on Milan Design Week 2025. Led by Phillip Mathieson, Edwina Spence and Ariel Ophir-Verheyden, this event was held in Mathieson-designed Muse Sales Gallery in Potts Point, against the backdrop of the Sydney city skyline.

In this event, we gathered as a community of design enthusiasts for a relaxing evening of connection and inspiration. Together, we discussed the continued refinement of materiality, the art of storytelling through design, and the enduring value of craftsmanship – themes that span across multiple disciplines. Highlights included exploring the timelessness of the Hermès Home Collection, admired for its expression of materiality and craftsmanship. Davide Groppi’s installation sparked conversation about the power of light in creating emotive, atmospheric spaces. Alcova’s Ranieri installation deepened our appreciation for the evocative and sculptural qualities of texture and materiality. These moments of discussion, among others, shaped a meaningful exchange of ideas throughout the evening.

In many ways, Reflections from Milan was inspiring and insightful for everyone. More than just a recap of Milan, the evening served as a reminder that design is living and evolving; a convergence of art, culture, craft and innovation.
“A relaxed night of conversation that reminded us how valuable it is to come together—to slow down, share ideas, and learn from each other. It wasn’t about big statements, but about connecting through the small details that spark curiosity and conversation.”
Edwina Spence
